it all depends on what level of sound quality, and volume your looking for. if you replace the head unit and get new speakers, thats a great start, but i would highly recomend a sub as well. i am 37 years old, and i enjoy music, but i am far from bass head that can be heard down the street. what a sub does, is it filles in missing low end and that low end taks the system from sounding like a tin cup to sound full bodied and authoritive, wether you listen to rap, rock, country, or clasical, you'll gain a tremendous sound improovement over a non sub system. when adding a sub, you do need a amp. but you can get a single 8" or 10" sub, thin mounts can fit under the seat, and a small amp could fitn under another seat, so it does not have to be intrusive. typically for a sub to be powered approprietly with the rest of the system it should be equal to or up to 2x the power of all other channels combined, a head unit on a deck is about 15-20 watts rms x 4 channels so a sub and amp combo of about 100-150 watts would fill in the sound nicely. if you get a single 4ohm sub, then a 50-75 watt x2 amp bridged would be a very affordable option. here are just a couple options to consider.

shallow mount 10" sub ($70) - http://www.edesignaudio.com/edv2/product_info.php?cPath=21&products_id=106
small amp - ($80) - http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=120&i=489AP400&tp=115
Custom sub enclosure (approx. $75) - from any custom car install shop or local car audio shop.
install kit - ($15) - http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KLM-K8 (car shops charge way to much for these, i'd buy it in advance)

honselty the items i listed above would likely make your system sound better than even a new deck and speakers would. if you want the features of a new deck, thats great go for it, but i would consider holding off replacing the factory speakers, truth ius they are not that bad these days, they are somewhat accoustically matched to the vehical. if you can afford or dont mind replacing it all and getting the sub, that would obviously be the best results.

it all depends upon what turn of receptive to advice quality, as good as volume your seeking for. if we reinstate a conduct section as good as get latest speakers, thats a good start, though i would rarely recomend a underling as well. i am 37 years old, as good as i suffer music, though i am distant from drum conduct which can be listened down a street. what a underling does, is it filles in blank low finish as good as which low finish taks a complement from sounding similar to a tin crater to receptive to advice full bodied as good as authoritive, wether we attend to rap, rock, country, or clasical, you’ll benefit a extensive receptive to advice improovement over a non underling system. when adding a sub, we do need a amp. though we can get a singular 8" or 10" sub, skinny mounts can fit underneath a seat, as good as a tiny amp could fitn underneath an additional seat, so it does not have to be intrusive. typically for a underling to be powered approprietly with a rest of a complement it should be next to to or up to 2x a energy of all alternative channels combined, a conduct section upon a rug is about 15-20 watts rms x 4 channels so a underling as good as amp combo of about 100-150 watts would fill in a receptive to advice nicely. if we get a singular 4ohm sub, afterwards a 50-75 watt x2 amp bridged would be a really affordable option. here have been only a integrate options to consider.

Custom underling enclosing (approx. $75) – from any law car implement emporium or internal car audio shop.
install pack – ($15) – http://www.knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KLM-K8 (car shops assign approach to most for these, i’d buy it in advance)

honselty a equipment i listed on top of would expected have your complement receptive to advice improved than even a latest rug as good as speakers would. if we wish a facilities of a latest deck, thats good go for it, though i would cruise land off replacing a bureau speakers, law ius they have been not which bad these days, they have been rather accoustically suited to a vehical. if we can means or dont thoughts replacing it all as good as removing a sub, which would patently be a most appropriate results.

make sure you have plenty of speaker wire and connectors. and no, you dont need a subwoofer, tweeters or amplifeir. if you buy a good set of speaker you will be good to go, unless you want an extremely loud system. but if you are jus looking for a good quality system that you can listen to a nice head unit and speakers will work jus fine. i would suggest alpine, rockford fosgate, or infinity as they have great sounding speakers and are great quality. be sure to get highs (for the higher pitchs) and lows (to give you a lil base)

It all depends on what you want from your system! Unless ur wanting heart pounding bass, there is no real need for a sub or amp. A good head unit will have enough power to give you a great sounding system. I would recommend a good set of mids and high 3-4 way door/rear speakers, such as infinity or pioneer. they will give you good clarity with the right amount of light bass im betting your looking for!

2 12" subs
4 component speakers(comes with a mid bass driver,a tweeter and a crossover.)
1 amp for the subs
1 4-channel amp for the components
a head-unit that has 3 amp outputs(front,rear,and sub.)

What you'll need to complete the job
Each car presents its own specific type of installation issues, varying on factory speaker locations, mounting depth and height, and the vehicle's factory wiring. Many installations are straightforward — a screwdriver might be all that you require to complete the job. Other installations can be more involved, particularly if you're installing component speakers.

The tools you'll need might include, but aren't limited to:
-a variety of screwdrivers (Phillips, stubby Phillips, flat-blade, and magnetic or offset screwdrivers)
-Torx drivers and bits
-drill (with screwdriver and bits)
-Allen wrenches
-socket wrench set
-wire cutter/stripper tool
-soldering iron and solder
-crimping tool and connectors
-panel removal tool
-retaining clip remover (or a screwdriver covered with a shop rag)
-a file
-electrical tape
-exacto knife
